IT AIN'T FAIR 2010
Art Basel Miami Beach 2010
December 2, 2010 - January 8, 2011
Exhibition design by Rafael de Cárdenas
3100 NW 7 Avenue / Miami / Florida / 33127
It Ain’t Fair is the third edition of OHWOW's annual group exhibition, presented to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach. Offering an alternative to the overwhelming mazes of art fair booths, It Ain’t Fair will highlight a cogent selection of leading-edge art. From painting to performance, sculpture to sound, the exhibition will occupy over 6,000 square feet of gallery space in a comprehensive survey of emerging and established artists’ most recent work. In addition, the exhibition will present special projects and programming, such as site-specific installations and video screenings. It Ain’t Fair is exactly that – not a fair, but a multimedia production, providing a critical scope of contemporary art innovation.
A selection of participating artists include Daniel Arsham, Scott Campbell, Julia Chiang, Dan Colen, André Ethier, FriendsWithYou, Phil Frost, Michael Genovese, Luis Gispert, Gustavo Godoy, Tomoo Gokita, Diana Al-Hadid, Trenton Doyle-Hancock, Julia Ziegler-Haynes, Michael St. John, KAWS, Robert Lazzarini, Nate Lowman, Brendan Lynch, Ari Marcopoulos, Barry McGee, Neck Face, José Parlá, Rey Parlá, Kembra Pfahler, Aurel Schmidt, David Benjamin Sherry, Lucien Marc Smith, Agathe Snow and Nick Van Woert.

Rainbow City
By FriendsWithYou in association with OHWOW and Dacra
December 2 - December 5, 2010
3800 NE 1 Avenue / Miami Design District / Florida / 33137
Rainbow City is an environmental installation addressing the potency of interaction, ritual, and play. Inspired by Holi, a festival effectuated by Hindu followers throwing brightly colored water and powder at each other, FriendsWithYou presents a vibrant collection of mutable, air-filled sculptures. Fabricated of intensely colored and receptive materials, the installation encourages visitors to be active and explore – subsequently, inventing their own ritual. The individual structures are simple, minimal forms, borrowing aesthetics from toy-like geometry and design, which tower over guests, as each element’s height ranges from ten to forty feet. By dwarfing the audience, the totemic pieces trigger a sense of reverence, similar to the visual objective of a monolithic monument. During interaction, the inflated sculptures “embrace” visitors, while repetitive sound elements further enhance the sensory experience. The overall installation creates a surreal landscape of psychedelic scenery intended to provoke a religious and childlike awareness, simultaneously. Rainbow City invites spectators to participate with a responsive environment, offering an opportunity to connect physically and psychologically with an energetic, yet ephemeral, setting.
Opening reception Thursday, December 2, 2010 6pm.

TIM BARBER
Untitled Photographs
November 13 - November 27, 2010
3100 NW 7 Avenue / Miami / Florida / 33127
In his first major U.S. show titled Untitled Photographs, Barber presents a collection of images spanning his fifteen years behind the lens. Known for elegantly composed observations that locate complex beauty in the seemingly mundane, Barber’s Untitled Photographs offers a selection of over forty of his images. From portraits to landscapes to narrative scenes, Barber approaches all of his subject matter with a palpable delicacy. Expanding on amateur aesthetics, these images can feel as much like spontaneous documentation of the artist’s adventures as careful compositions. The line between autobiography and fiction is as ethereal as the overall tone of the work. In the case of Barber’s photography, ambiguity is seductive, and the lure of fantasy eclipses the security of literality.
Known equally for his curatorial practice as he is a photographer, Barber is the former photo editor of Vice Magazine, and the mind behind the hugely influential on-line gallery tinyvices.com. Barber has established himself as the authority on up-and-coming photographic talent and as a true arbiter of taste in the young, global artist community. His legendary and massive tinyvices group shows – featuring hundreds of photographers and artists – have been exhibited around the world, and his publishing ventures, including the prolific imprint TV Books and a curated series of five artists monographs, published by the Aperture Foundation, have garnered critical acclaim.
Opening reception Saturday, November 13, 2010 8pm.
